Learn To Make The Free Pot of Gold Ring

Hello! I know that on my last post I said that I was going to update this blog here with a pattern for a pot of gold ring,

just in time for St. Pat’s Day, and here I am, squeeking in before the day itself. Ha. Actually, I’ve been wanting to do a lot more when it comes to crochet lately but I’ve had some problems with motivation and depression. I’m just going to try to keep my chin up and continue moving forward. In fact, I’m going on a vacation at the end of this month to go visit some family and I think that’s going to help. 🙂

Not that you’ve got past all the yada yada that I was throwing out there, do you still want the pot of gold ring? 😀
I made this pot of gold ring and placed it on top of a rainbow ring base because I thought it would look adorable (side note: I was right :p). You can definitely use whatever colors you would like and perhaps even make this with worsted weight yarn and a size G hook and make it a larger applique. Again, check out this link on how to change colors in the round to help with your seam if you are worried with that.

Materials:

Gauge:

  • Not critical

Terms/ stitches:

  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip st
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes:

  • Like the other rings I’ve made, I made the band 25 sts around because that’s what fits my finger.
  • I used glue to attach the pot of gold to the band, but you can sew it on with ends if you’d prefer. Do a spot test if you’re using a glue that you’ve never used before. I suggest fabric glue not crazy glue or super glue which I’ve found changes colors of thread.

Pattern:

Band:

Row 1: Ch 25, slip st to form a ring, sc into each st around, slip st into first sc to secure – 25 scs
Rows 2 – 6: Ch 1, sc into each st around, slip st into first st to secure – 25 scs

Pot of Gold:
With black thread: row 1: Ch 6, slip st into second ch from the hook and across – 5 scs
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc twice into first st, sc into next 3 sts, sc twice into last st – 7 scs
Rows 3 – 5: Turn, ch 1, sc into each st across – 7 scs
Row 6: Turn, ch 1, sc2tog the first st, sc into the next 3 sts, sc2tog the last two sts – 5 scs
Fasten off this color.

With yellow or gold thread: sc into first st, ch 2, *sc & ch 2, into the next st,* repeat from * to * twice more, sc into the last st. – 5 scs
Fasten off with this color.

After you weave in all the ends from your different rows, if you chose to make a rainbow band (you could do just a green band), glue the pot of gold you made to the band and wait for it to dry. I used fabric glue because I have found that super glue changes the color thread. Let it dry before you wear it.

Now, in addition to making a rainbow ring and a pot of gold I just made a crochet ring with white details. (on the right here) Honestly, I’ve been wearing this a lot because I love the way it looks and it’s a fun rainbow ring.

It’s just that simple. Do you like it? I do hope you enjoy this pattern and make a cute accessory for St. Pat’s Day. 😀 Add this pattern to your Ravelry queue here!
Ooh, and I need some ideas for jewelry for my sisters for my vacation this month. If you happen to have some awesome ideas, I’d love to see them in the comments.
I’m going to get some more posts queued up for my vacation and maybe it’ll give me some fun ideas for later too. Take care!
