Another bright and rainbow colored June pattern? What?

Don’t adjust your screen, it is! I loved last year’s 2018TSAP June square so much that I knew I had to do another rainbow one for this year. I had to sit down and wrack my brain a bit to think how I could incorporate rainbows to June’s square. I didn’t really want to JUST add a rainbow to the cup or something (which isn’t a bad thing and I might do that for December’s square with a snowflake). And one day I thought “ok, what’s at the end of the rainbow? Coffee, naturally!”

And that’s the mysterious story behind this month’s square. Wasn’t that a wild ride? Ok, I know it wasn’t but sometimes I want to give you a bit of a peek into my creative process. It’s not all that exciting, it’s usually me writing ideas or scribbling nonsense until I get a good idea.

Anyway…
I really like this month’s square and I hope you do too! It’s perfect for June’s Pride month celebration and all you always tried people. It’s a fun square, even if it is a bit messy to make when you’re working with all those pieces of yarns. I suggest you just sit in one spot and don’t move until the square is done (which is what I did, it was easier I swear).
I do hope you love this pattern and I can’t wait to see all the pictures!

Materials

  • US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 16 rows x 15 scs = 4”

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS: right side
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked flat back and forth in rows, with a turn at the beginning/end of the row, from the bottom up.
  • This square measures about 7.5″ unblocked and will come out with 8″ with a sc border (explained below). The photos do not feature a border.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
  • The odd rows are the right side.
  • Your square may need some light blocking.
  • You will need to know how to create a slipknot on your hook for this pattern.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • Color A is off-white (Caron One Pound in Off-White), color B is brown (Caron One Pound in Espresso), color C is purple (misc stash yarn), color D is blue (misc stash yarn), color E is green (misc stash yarn), color F is yellow (misc stash yarn), color G is orange (misc stash yarn), and color H is red (misc stash yarn).

If you have any other join suggests or favorites, let me know!
