Drunken Sheep- The Shelia Sheep Bottle Cozy Free Crochet Pattern

Disclaimer: no sheep were drinking during the creation of this pattern. 😀
So… I was looking through Instagram the other day and saw the most adorable hat, it had sheep on it! And my first thought was, “yeah, I need to make something with sheep,” and so I set out to make this pattern. So, I decided to make another wine bottle cozy because it’s been a while since I created the Willow Wine Bottle Cozy, so I decided to make another. Honestly, this is a pretty quick pattern if you like tapestry crochet and it’ll be a great gift or holder for a great gift for that fiber lover in your life.

Shelia Sheep Bottle Cozy

Materials:

  • Worsted/ medium/ #4 weight yarn
  • US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:

  • 4.5” x 4.5” = 19 dcs x 9 rows
Ravelry link

Terms/ stitches used:

  • Magic circle
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes:

  • The pattern is worked in the round with a slip st into the first stitch into the last.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
  • You will need to know how to work into the back loop only for this pattern, the sides are worked into the back loop only.
  • This pattern is worked from the bottom up, working the base flat, then building the sides and then topping it off with the handles.
  • All of the stitches in this pattern as single crochets, because of this the sides portion (where all the color changes are) only tells you how many stitches to do in what color, this is what the number in the parenthesis means.
  • Rather than changing, cutting, and weaving in the ends of all the colors, the yarn is carried through the bags in the photos. Here’s a great tutorial on color changes. In this pattern, the active yarn is worked over the inactive.
  • Color A is green, Color B is black, Color C is white, and Color D is blue.

Finished measurements:

  • Height: 11″ (with handles not extended)
  • Diameter: 5″

I would also love chickens-but the sheep are adorable. I don't drink but I always have grocery bags and need a bag holder! I will improvise and make it that! Thanks!

So cute! I would love to see a pattern like this, but with chickens. I'd make one for my chicken-lady friend. :)

What am I missing? When I got to row 13 I only get 36 st rather than 45, and I believe 14-16 only have 34 st. Help!

Virginia, Hi! I'm so sorry about that, you're absolutely right I forgot to add an additional Color C: (9) after the repeat. I updated the pattern and it should be all good to go now. Let me know there's any thing else I can do. :)
