Hey there! How’s January treating you? It’s been a wild ride of a couple weeks, huh? But at least there’s crochet. Lots and lots of crochet. And this week’s new free pattern, or should I say patterns, the Cute Snowflakes Coaster Set. I hope you like them!

So for a while I’ve been doing seasonal mug rug/ coasters (remember the pumpkins? They’re still a favorite!) and I realized I was missing a winter set. I played around with a couple designs before I decided to make them one snowflake to a coaster. Having 2 snowflakes was either too much or to get the mug rug to a manageable size I had to shrink the snowflakes down to almost nothing. That just wasn’t going to do, so it’s one snowflake each.

And, now that I’ve made this snowflake a bunch of times (seriously, this is a traditional snowflake design and I love using it) I knew I had to add it to a coaster. But I didn’t want to end there, I needed to update the snowflake, making it a bit more flashy. So, that’s the story behind the 2 new designs. It wasn’t wildly exciting but it does mean there’s 2 new patterns.
Anyway, I do hope you like these designs. It’s a fun and easy way to add a bit of crochet to your home. Not to mention, these are so quick and make a great stash buster.

I hope where ever you are you’re having a great time and being safe and healthy. Hugs friends. Wash your hands and masks.

  • Size #4 worsted weight yarn
    • 2 colors
      • I used scrap yarn
      • .5 – 1 oz. / 20 – 40 yards
  • Notions: scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle

Terms/ Stitches used

  • RS
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet

Notes

  • This pattern is worked from the bottom up, flat, in back and forth rows, with a turn at the beginning/ end of the row.The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • Every stitch in this pattern is a single crochet. The directions will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many scs to make.
  • Your coasters may need some light blocking.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • In the samples: Color A is blue and color B is white.
