Hey everyone! How’s your week going? Did you get a lot of shopping done this last weekend? I actually just got a couple little things here and there but nothing big.

So… if you’ve been watching my Instagram you will have see this week’s design a while ago but because I’m always producing new and fun designs, it got added to the queue and so it took a while to get to it. It’s here now! And I hope you like it. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with in colors. 😀

Materials

  • US H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Aran/ medium/ size #4 weight yarn
    • 4.5/ 5/ 5.8 oz. | 228/ 254/ 294 yards
    • At least 3 colors
    • I used Caron One Pound
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 4″ = 15 scs BLO x 11 rows

Terms/stitches used

  • Magic circle
  • RS: right side
  • BLO: Back loop only
  • Ch: chain
  • St: stitch
  • Slip st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Sc2tog: single crochet 2 sts together

Notes

  • This pattern is worked in the round, with a slip st into the first st after the last st.
  • This pattern is worked from the tip of the stocking to the brim of the hat.
  • All 3 sizes begin the same way (rows 1 – 61 or 63 or 66) and then differ when they get to the graphing portion.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
  • The first st of the row is always worked into the same st as join.
  • You can fasten off colors A and B in the stocking section but you don’t have to, I carried the yarn up the inside of the hat. This won’t make the cleanest interior but it does make for fewer ends to weave in.
  • I used an H hook for this pattern, for a slightly looser fit. If you’d like to go down and make it tighter, you can.
  • From row 1 until the brim, sc into the back loop only (BLO). At the end of the row, slip st into both loops of your 1st st, this will help to keep your seam straight.
  • Every stitch in this graphing section is a single crochet. The directions for that section (where the graphing is) will only tell you what color (ie: Color A, Color B, etc…) and the number in the parentheses tells you how many stitches to make.
  • In the example, the inactive yarn is carried behind the active. If this is confusing, you might want to check out the helpful Moogly video on tapestry.
  • Color A is aqua (Caron One Pound in Aqua), color B is blue (Caron One Pound in Pale Royal Blue), and color C is white (Caron One Pound in White).

Row 79 has colour A in it after colour A was fastened off. Is this correct or should it be colour B?

Question about the number of starting chains at the beginning of the row once you start the graphing. I don't understand what the number in the brackets refers to after the Ch1 [Row 64: B: Ch 1, (5)]. I understand the number in the brackets after the colour and colon is the number of sc to make in that colour [C: (1), B: (7)]. The Ch 1 at the start of the row makes sense to me but not the (5). Thank you.

The first (5) after the Ch 1 is still in color B, it's your first 5 sts. I hope that helps.
