Mug of Beer

You know what, I love holidays for crocheting. It makes designing just a little bit easier, because I get to make cute things and it’s fun and I don’t have to think TOO HARD on what to make. So, this week I’m making something that’s St. Pat’s Day themed. This design is a bit like my pilsner design from last year, bit bigger but still fun. I hope you like it!

Materials:

• US G (4.00 mm) crochet hook
• Worsted/ Medium/ size #4 weight yarn
  • 3 colors
  • not much, just scraps
• Yarn needle

Gauge:

• 4.5” x 4.5” = 19 dcs x 9 rows

Terms/ stitches used:

• Ch: chain

  

• St: stitch
• Sc: single crochet

Notes:

• The pattern is worked in 3 parts, the middle, the outside “mug” part, and the handle.
• The ch 1 at the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
• Color A is yellow, Color B is white, and Color C is gray in the photos.

Finished measurements:

• Height: 4.25″
• Width: just under 3″, 4″ (including  handle)

Pattern instructions: 

Row 1: Color A: Ch 11, sc into the second ch from the hook and across – 10 scs
Rows 2 – 16: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 10 sts – 10 scs
Fasten off with Color A.

Row 17: Color B: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 10 sts – 10 scs
Fasten off with Color B.

Row 18: C: Create a slip knot around your hook, sc into outside edge of your last sc from row 17, sc into the next 15 row ends, ch 1 at the corner, rotate the whole piece to the right, sc into the other side of the next 10 sts, ch 1 at the corner, rotate whole piece to the right, sc into the next 16 row ends – 42 scs
Fasten off, weave in all your ends.

Handle:
Row 1: C: Create a slip knot around your hook, skip 3 sts from the top and sc into the next st, ch 12, skip the next 8 sts, sc into the next st – 2 scs
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc into the next 12 chs, slip st into the next sc – 12 scs
Fasten off, weave in all your ends.

Well, I do hope you like this pattern and have some fun with it for St. Paddy’s Day. You could make the beer section green or a nice honey colored, if you like a darker beer. Maybe attach a shamrock to it and pin it to your hat. Also new this week is the Natalie Cowl, another tapestry crochet design.
