Hello again! How’s things with you? I’m still here, playin’ with yarn. All is well, I’m still enjoying tapestry crochet designs and my testers are currently working on my Alanna Owls Bags and next up will be the Viola Market Bag, which I’m super excited about. I said this on Facebook and Instagram, this will be the Spring/ Summer of bags! I’m making a ton of them and I think perhaps the people in my family should expect bags for Christmas this year.

😀 I’m probably going to have so many I won’t ever use them all… kinda like my hat situation. Anyway, this week I’m bringing you another Easter design, only this time it’s a bottle/ can cozy. Last year I made a sock monkey can cozy and I really loved how it turned out (note: I never wrote the pattern because there are already a few out there), so I decided to make a Sock Bunny Can Cozy! Looking at this design, I think it would also look like a dog but I’m going to pretend all day that it’s nothing but a really adorable bunny. I hope you like it!

Materials:

  • US G Hook
  • Worsted/ size #4/ medium weight yarn
  • Yarn needle
  • 2 Buttons

Gauge:

  • 19 dcs x 9 rows = 4.5″

Terms/ stitches:

  • Magic circle
  • Ch: Chain
  • St: Stitch
  • Slip St: Slip stitch
  • Sc: Single crochet

Notes:

  • This pattern is worked in 4 parts: body, ears, mouth, and eyes are added last.
  • The body and mouth are worked in the round, with a slip st into the first st from the last.
  • The ears are worked down both sides of a chain row, in 2 pairs.
  • The mouth can be made by following the instructions below or by using puffy paint (which is both easier and harder depending upon your skill with the paint).
  • Always check your gauge
  • Color A is gray, color B is pink, and color C is cream.

Finished product dimensions:

  • Height: 5″ (base to top of cozy) – 6.5″ (including ears)
  • Diameter: 4.25″ – 4.5″
  • Base: 2.75″ – 3″

Below is a photo tutorial on how to create the bunny’s mouth if you don’t want to draw it on with puffy paint.
Using your yarn needle, you need to weave the yarn from back to front in the order the photos show.
Step 2:
Go from the purple dot to the blue, red, yellow, and green in that order.
Step 7: Go from the purple dot to the blue, red, yellow and green in that order.
Step 12: Go from the red dot to the blue dot.
Step 14: Go from the blue dot to the red dot.
Step 16: Go from the blue dot to the red dot.

Note: create 2 in Color A and 2 in Color B.

Row 1: Ch 9, sc into the second ch and into the next 7 sts, sc 4 times into the last st, flip the piece and sc into the back loop of next 7 sts – 18 scs
Fasten off.
Using a long piece of yarn, secure one Color A ear to the back of a Color B ear. I used a piece of Color A to do this, so you could sorta see the yarn I used, gives it a “homemade” feel. The pictures below should show you what I mean.

Assembly:
Attach the mouth, after you add the mouth details, attach the ears or the buttons in whatever order you’d like.

Sorry to hear you had an issue with this pattern. I'm a very tight crocheter and so I needed to add another increase row to have it fit the bottom of a can/ bottle for me, that's why I always include a gauge for things like this (my scs are probably smaller than yours). I hope the rest of the pattern worked out for you. :)
